At the time of my visit the entrance fee was about 100 PLZ (20 Euros). There are different queues for different languages. You cannot enter the mines on your own and you must be part of a group led by a guide. Each group has a maximum size of about 20. You descend a wooden staircase down into the mines and from memory I think there are about 400 steps, there is an elevator for those who cannot physically do the starcase.
The tour took a couple of hours and you walk about 2 miles while under the ground in the mines. I don't normally go to tourist attractions, I have been to a lot in Europe and most have been dissapointing or just not for me, my least favourite being the leaning tower of Pisa, a complete waste of time. This place however, I found quite impressive, especially the church carved in to the stone in one of the larger caverns.
All in all it looked like something from one of the Lord of the Rings films. Worth a visit if you have time.
I did not take my bike when I made the visit, there is an attended car par on site but I don't know how secure it is. I would recommend taking a bike with no luggage or using public transport to get there as there is a good bus and train service from Krakow to the town. It takes about 30 min to get from Krakow to Wieliczka by bus or train.
