About 300 bird species live in this area, including white-tailed eagles, cormorants, and glossy ibis. The climate and surroundings are ideal for the thousands of Egyptian white pelicans that arrive each spring to raise their young. Arctic geese arrive in their thousands in order to avoid the harsh winters of northern Europe. Wildcats, wolves, foxes, and over a thousand plant species may be seen.
