This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a small fortified town built in the 12th century which depicts the culture of the Transylvanian Saxons. Traditionally, the town was organized by the guilds of craftsmen who had to construct a tower each for the defense of the town. Houses and buildings are recognized as the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval architecture. A medieval festival takes each July. It is meant to be the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler who inspired Bram Stoker’s book, "Dracula".
