The world’s oldest and deepest (in some areas, 1 mile deep) freshwater lake. It contains as much water as the five Great Lakes of North America. The Baikal Seal is endemic to the area and numerous fish live in its crystal clear waters. Siberian brown bears, elk, moose, sable, and deer live in the surrounding forests with a backdrop of distant mountains. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Buryat Tribe live on the eastern side of the lake and raise camels, goats, and sheep.
