Novgorod

The oldest city in the country, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many historic sights can be seen including the Kremlin, the iron statue of "The Monument of the Millennium of Russia" erected in 1862, and the 11th century St. Sophia Cathedral with frescoes and iconostases. Yaroslav's Court contains Novgorod-style churches which have a square base crowned by a dome and wooden houses that are now temporary exhibitions.
