Old Jeddah

Al-Balad (Old Town) contains many souqs and traditional Arabian-style houses made from coral. The coral was taken from the nearby reefs and the houses decorated with ornate hand-carved wood details. They were owned by merchants, but many are now museums. Naseef House was built in 1872 and contains over 100 rooms with intricate lattice-work carved on the windows. The Al-Tayibat City museum was a palace with 300 rooms which now house coins, silver antiques, and traditional Bedouin clothing.
