Al Qadarif

Surrounded by mountains on three sides, this city has multiple ethnic communities and is famous for the Russian-built grain silo which was used to store sorghum. It is in an agricultural area growing sesame seeds, sunflowers, cotton, cereals, peanuts, and sorghum. It is a trade centre for cotton and cereals. Sesame seed auctions take place daily. This city is said to be "The Bread Basket of the Sudan". May also be known as Gedaref.
