Omdurman Camel Market

Camels, goats, cows and donkeys are sold at this market. Camels are usually brought in by foot from south Sudan and Darfur where the land is fertile and greener. They are bred for speed (racing or carrying light loads) or strength (carrying cargo) and pale colored or white camels are the most desired. Many camels wear a leather talisman pouch, containing prayers, which protect the animals on their long treks.
