Midsummer Eve in Dalarna

Celebrated annually in the Dalarna region on the Friday and Saturday between June 19-26 with Friday being the main day. Flowers and greenery cover the maypole before it is raised. Participants dance around the pole to traditional music and song. Many wear traditional costume. The first potatoes, pickled and soused herrings, chives, sour cream, and strawberries are eaten with much aquavit. Tradition has it that girls who place a spray of 7-9 different flowers under their pillow will dream of their future husband.
