Street Food

Vendors of street food are now situated within "hawker centres" and are stringently regulated by the government. Some 100 open-air food courts sell food day and night. They are mainly situated out of town, within the housing developments. Here, you will find gastronomic delights from Malaya, India, Indonesia, China, and the local fare of Peranaken (a mixture of Malaysian and Chinese cuisine). Newton Circus at the centre, however, is probably the most famous.
