Date of my visit

I got only a few hours to spend in Singapore but I made sure to visit Sri Mariamman Temple.

This place is buzzing with culture, not only because it's the oldest Hindu (or more accurately Tamil) temple in Singapore but because it's still a religious and cultural focal point of the Hindu community in the area (if it happens to visit between mid-October and mid-November you can even view an amazing firewalking ceremony).

Does the temple have a dress code?

Dress conservatively and cover up your legs and shoulders. Make sure you remove your shoes and store them around the entrance in the designated area.

When does Thimithi occur in Sri Mariamman Temple?

Mid-October to mid-November, a week before the Hindu festival of lights (Deepavali).

What is the best time to visit the temple?

It is best to visit the temple right after sunset or early in the morning. In that way, you avoid the crowds and the burning floor.

What are the operating hours?

The temple accepts visitors from 07:00 to 11:30 and 18:00 to 20:45.

Does it have an entrance fee?

The temple is free to visit. However, if you want to shoot photos or record videos with your cell phone or camera you need to purchase a permit — 3$ and 6$, accordingly.
