Ancient Villages of Northern Syria

Here, there are forty villages that date back to the late Antiquity and Byzantine periods. They are grouped within eight parks and are an indication of rural life. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pagan temples, churches, bathhouses, public buildings, cisterns, funerary monuments, and houses are among the ruins. The villages are testament to the transition from the pagan world of the Roman Empire to Byzantine Christianity. The remains of Roman protective walls, hydraulic techniques, and Roman agricultural plots can be seen. The villages were abandoned in the 8th-10th centuries.
