The Red Sea

This area is one of the country’s major attractions with coral reefs, crystal-clear water, and marine gardens. The coastline is 2,250 km long and among the most saline waters in the world allowing for high buoyancy. This is due to a high evaporation rate, little rain, few streams or rivers draining into the sea, and very little connectivity with the low saline water of the Indian Ocean. The 5,000-7,000 year old reefs are made up from stony acropora and porites coral. They can contain 44 species of shark and red sea fish in abundance. Many dive at the Blue Hole, a submarine sinkhole, at Dahab.
