International Festival of the Sahara
33.463525, 9.023511
This 4-day event is held every year in either November or December, and celebrates the traditional culture of the desert. Held at the gateway to The Sahara, most events are held in the H’naiech Stadium. Traditional music, dance, camel fights, poetry readings, Arabian horse racing, and Bedouin marriages take place. In the evenings, groups of musicians and dancers from other countries perform. The festival was born in 1910 when local residents gathered to celebrate the coming of the cooler weather.
