Mount Nemrut is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where, in 62 BC, a king built a tomb sanctuary at the top of the mountain. This was surrounded by large statues, some as tall as 8-9 metres. There were a statue of the king, two lions, two eagles, and some Greek, Iranian, and Armenian gods. The site was plundered and the statues are now scattered within the site. The road stops just shy of the top - the final part is accessed by either walking or a donkey ride.
