Pamukkale

37.917995, 29.11993

Translated, the name Pamukkale means "Cotton Castle". The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formed millions of years ago, this natural phenomenon has terraces of white stalactites and petrified waterfalls formed from calcium deposits from the hot mineral springs over the millennia. The Travertine Pools have been a spa since the time of the Romans and, at the nearby city of Hierapolis, there is a pool called the Sacred Pool, where bathers can swim over and amongst the submerged ancient plinths and marble columns.
