Siege of Sevastopol (panoramic painting)

This extraordinary, highly-detailed work of art commemorates the siege on June 6th, 1855. It was painted by the Russian artist Franz Roubaud from 1901-1904. The 360-degree re-enactment is a 4-m high and 115-m long painted background with model work constructions in the foreground. This gives a wonderful perspective to the construction. Prior to the start of work on the panorama, the artist had eye-witness accounts of the siege and the canvas was painted in Germany. Veterans from the battle were the first to see the re-construction of an amazing piece of history.
