Situated within a 2.5-square-mile area are over 2,300 Colonial and Victorian buildings that were built as the first planned city in the country. Building commenced in 1733 and the city was laid out in a grid pattern. The Davenport House Museum dates back to 1820 and is a beautiful example of a Federal-style town house. The majestic Oglethorpe Square is home to Owens-Thomas House which was built in 1819. Partake of the southern charm and stay in one of the many traditional houses converted into bed-and-breakfast properties.
