The buildings of this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site date back to the 16th century, although the city was founded in the 4th century. The Kalan Minaret, which is perfectly proportioned, can be seen from the square. The Women's Hammam dates back to the 16th century and is still in use. The 9th-10th century Ismail Samani mausoleum, mosques, and the four turrets of the Chor Minor can be seen. Bazaars abound with the local traditions being upheld.
