Fourth!! - with great Pits

Nov 14, 2007

Well I am now in a chase vehicle that has a laptop and uplink from Cabo San Lucas so I thought I would send a much requested update.

I have just spent the last 36 hours in the cockpit of one of two huge 4x4 trucks dragging a ton of gear and another offroad truck on a trailer (used to rescue the race truck need be) through 1300 miles of Baja peninsula race madness.

I ended up being one of the the fuel men (plus a few other small jobs) in the pits.... nothing like having an 800 horsepower, 5000 lb Trophy Truck come barreling down on you from 80 miles per hour, stopping ina distance oif about 40 feet, inches form you, and then you have to dump high octane fuel in it as fast as you can. Get you taks done quickly and get oout of the way of any rock spray as the monster leaps from the pits!

It turns out the group I have become a team member of (shirt and hat as uniform ;-) is a lower budget, ragtag operation. Our measly 300k truck, 100k pre run truck and fleet of 3 other chase vehicles is nothing compared to camps such as the Robbie Gordon operation that has a one million dollar race truck, over 30 full time men and a fleet of support vehicles.

Soooo how did we do in the race? FOURTH!!! We got fourth!!! The million dollar Robbie Gordon show? 3rd!!! We placed right next to him in a field of 22!!!

OK so given the success I am now showering and getting ready for some party on a yacht thrown by a competitive team. I'll try to write more soon.
