Arrival in The Gambia

20th Jan
Arrived last night at Luigi's Complex, a very comfortable resort on the coast and about 20 minutes from Banjul airport. We enjoyed a drink and a meal before settling in to our quarters for the next 3 nights.
This morning we went for a short walk along the beach, stopping for many conversations with stall holders, taxi drivers and general hawkers. Fortunately a promise to come back later satisfies most of them.

We eventually gave in though to 2 locals who were determined to keep us in conversation which led to a guided tour of the local area which included a visit to a family who collected and filtered palm juice, whilst living in shack that is not much more than a cardboard box.

We're still waiting to find out if the sampling will have any undesired after effects. The tour ended with us buying a bag of rice for a needy family. At least I hope that's where it went.

Spent most of day on the beach. Bought a couple of towels from one of stallholders.

Bought plates of fruit from Susan (no 6) who is a friend of Anita.
Anita arrived about 4pm with the BPEC guys, Watson, Dave and Mark. Drinks by the pool and a meal in Luigis once the power came back on.
