Planning and preparation

Our current plan is to leave August 2nd from Bowling Green and interstate it to Grand Junction CO, where we will join up with a magazine sponsored ride into Sturgis, SD (sometimes it's nice working in the MC industry).

From there, our plan is to ride west to / through Yellowstone, Montana, Idaho, Washington, hang out in Seattle for a day or two, south on the Pacific Coast Highway, through the Redwoods, over to Yosemite, through NV and UT back to CO, hit the Rocky Mountain National park, and then ride home.

Dad being the planning and scheduling maestro that he is laid out a schedule that had us doing the whole trip in 14 days. Then he made reservations along the way. God forbid it's raining, we're tired, a left turn looks more interesting than a right....we're on a schedule! Being much more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-motorcycle person, this irked me. I hate being commited to being somewhere at a certain time on a certain day when I'm on VACATION. Soooo, we compromised, he's being more flexible, and I'm trying to play along. We're going to go, have a good time, and not stress out about it.

Our current rides are a 2004 HD Electraglide Classic (mine, also known as Black Betty) and a 2003 HD Fat Boy (Dad's) which he has equipped with saddle bags and other luggage type accoutrements to ease his traveling.

We'll have companions during portions of the trip but due to work schedules Pops and myself will be the only ones doing the whole trip. Unless, of course, my buddy Todd quits his job and comes with like I've been telling him to...

Next installment will be a review of a warm up trip taken over Memorial Day weekend to, through, and around the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'll play with some pictures and see if I can make this stuff work.
