How It Ended
Well, it has been awhile since I posted here and this post will be very short.
I am presently scuba diving in the Philippines. After visiting my daughter on the way to the Rio Grande I had a series of mishaps which convinced me I did not want to ride all the way to TDF but I did not want to experience another Alaskan winter either. I decided to fall back to Plan B which was five months in the Philippines and Asia enjoying the warm weather, beautitful beaches and friendly people.
I will be here until the end of March, 2024. Besides diving here at Subic Bay (about 50 miles NW of Manila), I plan on a tour of New Zealand, Australia, Japan or Indonesia. The scenery in New Zealand looks a lot like what I left behind in Alaska except NZ has SHEEP. I have been to Australia a couple times back in the early 1980's while on an aircraft carrier but that was to the west coast near Perth so visiting the east coast and the Outback might be fun. And Japan is always a great place to shop for cameras. And the live aboard dive boats from Indoneasia visit komodo dragons which would be unique to say the least.
Thank you for following my blog. I had good feedback from lots of you. It was a difficult decision not to ride the bike south but call it an revelation about things that could happen to me at 70 in a country where the primary language is not english. And honestly my goals had changed and the ride was no longer fun.
I will be exploring North America from the back of a bike next summer. I still have the BEAST which is parked in a garage near St Louis, my 2020 Road King, and 2011 Versys so hopefully MB will be joining me on a tour. And the fate of the GS310 in Anchorage has not been decided. My two wheel transport here in the Philippines is a 125cc Suzuki scooter which can be rented for $6/day.
Thanks for following. Rich
