Dark and de-registered

by admin as part of The Big Trip 2.

As we descended towards the city we found ourselves driving in the dark, breaking the first rule of motorcycle travelling. We had 30kms ahead of us, the road was ok, but it was still a nerve wracking experience.

Guatemala

. My heart sank as I hit the road to Flores. Once again, I had to crawl along another twenty odd miles of gravel before I reached hard blacktop and the chance to pull back the throttle and put some miles down.. Sightseeing South Africa

by admin as part of Around the World - Life On A Bike.

Our days in Capetown were blessed with many fine days which complimented our sight seeing. We enjoyed the hospitality of Anton (chairman BMW Club Capetown.) and Gill with a drive through the wine district of Stellenbosch. A cool fine day saw us visit Cape Point, Simon's Town Penguins more wineries, one with a Cheetah farm, Tabletop Mtn, Charlie's Motorcycle Shop - a must for the overlander. Busy, Busy, Busy . After fitting a new front tyre and a little maintenance we headed off to Africa's most Southern point, Cape Agulas.

Salar de Uyuni

by admin as part of The Big Trip 2.

We finally made it onto the Salar and what an amazing experience, like riding on snow as hard as concrete and flat as far as the eye can see. Probably the only place on earth where you can ride with your eyes closed for a minute or two, exhilarating! The hotel where we stayed in Uyuni is a real meeting point for motorcycle travellers preparing for, or recovering from, a trip onto the Salar. Almost every day a new bike or two appears and sure enough the next morning there was another bike parked in the courtyard.

by admin as part of South America - Northward Bound.

As we departed the historical city of Cordaba, Argentina.....a city of many wonderful, cathedrals and monestary's, we set off into the pourig rain. As with many other rain storms, they often end..this one did not. As we commensed the cool wet riding got only worse....or better, since one week prior we were riding thru such intense heat that we were praying for cooler temperatures and hoped that it might rain on us....well our hopes came pouring down on us!! A long day.....the rain kept on...many surprises this day as well as many important items got drenched.

A Little About Us

by admin as part of The Big Trip 2.

This is the first instalment of what I hope will be an interesting Blog about our preparations for and journey through Central and South America. I thought it might be interesting not just to write about what an exciting time we are having, but also a little about some of the preparation that goes into such a trip, so if you are only interested in the exciting bits, you’ll have to wait awhile!!
