Day 28

Well we're still here! The only bear we came into contact with was Bear radio!!! Highway 17 took on a different aspect, after miles of dead straight roads at last the road began to twist and turn as it climbed its way round the edge of Lake Superior. Stunning views of the lake on the left and small lakes nestled amongst the trees to the right. On route to the provincial parks at Agawa Bay we stoppod at Pancake Bay's Indian craft centre, fascinating stuff on display including stuffed wolves and moose (yes they were real!). Discovered a big setback with stopping at the provincial park campsites, no ameneties and no local towns. Made our way to Wawa to see the giant goose and checked out Younges Store (you must go). On to White River (apparently it was from here that Winnie the Pooh came - Cool huh) Our next stop was Terrace Bay at the Aquasabon Falls went to see the falls, impressive, on the way back to the tent we had our first tumble. Fortunatly we were stationary at the time, so no damage done except to Dels pride! Went into Thunder Bay which lived up to its name and boy did it thunder, luckily not camping today! Moved on to Kakabeka Falls not far but the wind slowed us down, falls beautiful with a nice legend attached to them too. Met some lovely people there. Went on to Upsala hmmmm..... local campsite dodgy to say the least found a motel quickly, but did have fab food and passed into the central time zone. On to Dryden then Kenora where we stopped 2 nights, lovely place and they had a local festival on. Then it rained apparently what is known as a plains storm, the lightening must have carried on for about 2 hours solidly, really stunning. Left Ontario and went in to Manitoba, very flat and windy but a place worthy of note was Neepawa, thanks Bob for the great motel. Apart from that we just kept going going into Saskatchewan, some lovely little towns on the way through, real farming communities went in to Saskatoon and stopped at a great campsite. This is a lovely province really big active skies and really flat, very pretty. Two days later we were in Alberta, stopped at a great place called Vegreville which lays claim to having the largest egg in the world (not real)!!! Very pretty it is too, just one question...... why? Were heading for Edmonton but its just another city (with the largest shopping mall in the world!!! Steph wants to go back!!) so passed it by and stopped in Spruce Grove for a bumbreak. A guy pulled up next to the bike and offered us a place to stay so tonight is a night of luxury, sitting out back with a cool drink. Thanks Pat & Sue for the use of your beautiful home, your hospitality is much appreciated.
