Epic Motorcycle Adventure BeginsStardate: May 14, 2014. Captains Log: Oh boy, here we go!

This is my blog of an epic motorcycle adventure to South America with my son Dexter. I don't read blogs and therefore I don't know how to write a blog; however, I'm going to give this my best shot.
If anyone has any suggestion about what I should write about, by all means, let me know. I am open to suggestions.

Virginia to South Dakota

Date of update

First 1400 miles were an interesting equipment test. Plenty of rain and cold the first two days. Lots of sunshine and blue sky the third day.Departed from Winchester, VA at about 9am on May 15. Drove 440 miles the first day. We ended up in Richmond, IN. Nice drive for the first half of the day, drove through Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. It did start to rain around noon and remained cold and rainy through the end of the day. There was definitely a cold front moving in.

Phoenix

Date of update

After a week of camping throughout the desert southwest we have finally arrived in Phoenix. Were staying with an old friend of mine, Jeremy. I'll try to start catching you up on our progress. It's been a long busy week of riding through Utah, Nevada and Arizona. We have encountered nothing but picture perfect weather and have had blue skies and gentle breezes for the whole week. It has been difficult to keep the blog updated because we have been camping and have not had electricity or internet.

Grand Canyon

Date of update

Still trying to catch up on this blog. I'm getting this program and the nuances of uploading pictures figured out so hopefully this will continue to get easier and faster. Here's Zion and the Grand Canyon! After breaking down camp at Duck Creek Village we headed right down the road to Zion. The drive down the canyon is a spectacular view and a fun drive on the motorcycle. At one point while exploring the park we accidentally managed to get off of the designated trail and ended up climbing the mountain on a random path.

Leaving Phoenix

Date of update

A week in Phoenix. We're refreshed, motorcycle maintenance is complete, supplies replenished and we're about to head south again.Nothing too exciting happened this week, unless you consider a knife fight exciting. It was just an easygoing week taking care of last minute business before leaving the country.

Time in San Carlos

Date of update

We couldn't be more fortunate. Dex and I have found ourselves staying a couple extra days in San Carlos, beautiful, well, everything and great hostesses.Crossing the border into Mexico was one of the big milestones on the journey that I was sweating over. In all the research I had done prior to embarking on this trip, border crossings and the hassles they entail had been prevalent in almost everybody's stories of their travels by motorcycle. Naturally, I had some anxiety concerning our paperwork and the cooperation of border officials.

More San Carlos

Date of update

We're enjoying our fortunate situation here in San Carlos and are taking in some more sights and activities.Today consisted of getting up early and installing a ceiling fan in the palapa. It got deathly still last night and we were all just siting about under the palapa sweating like a whore in church. I had discovered they had a fan in a box in pieces so I assembled and installed a fan. So much better now. After that we hitchhiked into town with a nice guy from Tuscon, Juanito, who was on his way into town to fuel up a jet ski.

RAIN!

Date of update

We're doing fine. Been stuck in a small town, south of Puerto Vallarta for a few days because of rain and the internet wasn't working so we haven't been able to get the word out. We will be updating the blog soon.

Mayto to Mexico City

Date of update

We have since moved on the Puerto Escondido but here is a quick account of the events leading up to that point. We finally arrived in Mayto and found our destination, El Rancho Sol y Mar, roughly two hours south of Puerto Vallarta. We learned of the ranch from Christine, our host in San Carlos, who had worked there for a few months.

Mexico City to Guatemala

Date of update

Sorry, this is a brief account of about two weeks of travel but I had to get caught up somehow.I’m going to go through this quickly because I feel like I need to get caught up with the blog and I can’t just skip to current events and leave big hole in our travel story. So here’s an attempt at brevity:
