It all starts here.

Epic Motorcycle Adventure BeginsStardate: May 14, 2014. Captains Log: Oh boy, here we go!

This is my blog of an epic motorcycle adventure to South America with my son Dexter. I don't read blogs and therefore I don't know how to write a blog; however, I'm going to give this my best shot.
If anyone has any suggestion about what I should write about, by all means, let me know. I am open to suggestions.

It is 9:30 p.m. and I am finished preparing for the journey. I am finally taking the time to familiarize myself with this blogging software and starting the entry process. Tomorrow morning I will set out on the first leg of the journey.
I am writing this blog for several reasons. Mainly because I want my family to be able to follow along and know where we are and how we are doing. I am also writing this because I have friends who want to "live vicariously" through me. I think this is funny. I never really thought someone would want to be in my shoes. Let's hope this is fun!
I have spent months preparing for this moment. I have made list after list of things that need to be acquired, learned, executed, discovered, and packed. It is actually remarkable how many things you need to take care of before embarking on a trip like this. There is paperwork, riding gear, camping gear, motorcycle maintenance gear, vaccinations, budgeting, route planning, blah blah blah... the lists were long and arduous, but I got through them all and I am confident that I have covered all my bases. Of course, I will surely find that I have missed some things but I will figure out what they are as we go. Hopefully before we leave the USA.

This being the first time I have even considered doing something like this, I have had to read and learn about the whole process. I hope I have followed good advice. Clearly, this has been done before but there is no definitive manual or handbook describing how one should go about preparing for such a trip. Man... I hope I'm doing this right!

Wish us luck!
