Fez
I wasn't having much luck with the Adhans in Fez, I was expecting a really good one but the local mosque had employed a rusty darlek with a cold to deliver theirs. It was a bit of a disappointment.
THe Blue Gate seen from the terrace of my hotel
I had my breakfast on the roof terrace looking at the roofs of the medina in the morning sun. It was rather pleasant. Ancient walls blended into new constructions effortlessly, the only blight on the landscape being the million uniform satellite dishes all staring at the same thing like a flock of seagulls on a roof staring at a newly dropped bag of chips.
The famous tanneries
I was away early to find the tanneries, this being my third attempt, apparently, the morning was the best time to go and see them. On the way I ran into Hamidou who ran a shop containing a lot of the things I wanted to take back to my family, after a deal was struck, which I'm sure I could have done better on, he took me to the leather cooperative which overlooked the famous tanneries. He told me a bit about them and then left me with Hassan who again sold me stuff for which I did not put up a big enough fight for. After that, the shopping trip was over.
mucky work
I got myself properly lost but eventually found my way back by heading uphill. This seemed to work well. A coffee and a sit down rested my ankle and then it was back to the bike to get the toilet roll that I had left in a pannier. It looked like this too had gone the way of my jacket. Fortunately there were enough packets of tissues to keep up the good fight against Montazuma. When was it going to end?
The only way to transport goods into the Medina
I went back to the place where I ate last night and had a Moroccan soup which was very good. I then took another walk around the Medina to buy a few little nik naks which again added up to too much. They know how to sell you stuff these dudes!
Copper workers in Place Seffarine
Back at the hotel I escaped the afternoon heat by planning my last few days in Morocco, working out how much money I needed and trying to work some plan for getting across Spain.
In the evening I went back to my usual place. Things were very busy as it was Thursday night, Friday Prayers tomorrow. I had my favourite tajine, Kefta, as it would be my last and took one last wander around the medina. A truly unique place.
