IRAN 13.08.09 - 30.08.09
by dogito66 as part of RTW 2008-2015.The start of our Iran experience isnt really as good as wed expect it. After finishing our paperwork at the Pakistani side and saying good bye to our 10th country on this trip, we have to wait at the iron gate to Iran. Apparently the border guards are having a tea break and this just 1 hour before they close the border anyway
time to pull the africa twin
17. Canada - fresh salmon anyone ?
by admin as part of Ushuaia - Alaska 2002.Meeting up with the guys from Finca Magdelena was a blast, as the travellers code of hospitality proved itself again...Following the info from HorizonsUnlimited I crossed into Canada at the Cascade border and headed straight for the BC Beemers rally in Nakusp. The roads, the ride and the views were just stunning.
I did, as usual , have an unprompted contact with local law enforcement - this time in Kelowna where I slipped between two lanes of cars. I looked inside the open passenger window of the car on my left to discover an RMCP officer looking straight back at me.....

by admin as part of Australia Solo 2015.The route from Brisbane to Mount Isa takes me along the A2 which starts at the end of the M2 Ipswhich motorway and climbs the great dividing range to Toowoomba, It stretches 2025km to Camooweal close to the Northern Territory. The view is outstanding as the road climbs and windes its way into Toowoomba. After Toowoomba it leads you through Dalby and it starts to feel a little more country. On Thursday night I made it to Roma with at least an hour of daylight to spare but not enough to get me to the next main town where i would find accommodation.

by BruceP as part of Two Pegs to Patagonia, The 3 Americas. The building of the Carretera Austral was begun on the orders of General Pinochet (a nasty man who caused the deaths of thousands of people and was a friend of Margaret Thatcher) in the 1970s and was finally completed in 1999.
Despite his reputation, one town has a memorial to him.

Singha and Smiles
by admin as part of Satay, Surf and Salsa - Asia, Australia and the Americas 2006-2008.Our friends James and Corinne left on Saturday after some great days catching up over a few Singha beers. We had quite an energetic week; exploring a large and slimy network of caves on Ko Lanta and going on a boat trip to snorkel around some nearby islands. The trip also included a visit to the Emerald Cave - an 80m swim through pitch black tunnels trying not to lose sight of our guides torch ahead of us or bump our heads on the low cave roof.

by connorcarson as part of UK to Turkey... oops, still going... India, Australia... RTW?.Thailand: Chiang Mai: It's cold.
I stare slack-jawed into my Ovaltine and listen to the rain dripping listlessly from my cheap plastic rain cape. Nearby stands a lifeless XT600. Her motor is cold, and her once-jaunty mirrors droop pathetically in the downpour.
Where did it all go wrong? What could possibly have happened to this man that he resorts to hot malty beverages? Let us examine the evidence....

by Sean Kelly as part of UK to Oz 2002-2003.Just a quick entry on our first day as innocents abroad. Drove through torrential downpours to arrive without drama to a slap up meal at the groenedijk motorcycle loft hotel, outside Ostend. Greeted by Sonya, but proprietor Ivan was, perhaps wisely, off tonight.
All is well after a couple of beers, but looking forward to a good nights kip.
Hope to post some pics soon, when we have read the instructions.

by grahamshee as part of Alaska to Argentina, July '08 to Jan '09 .Chile. It fascinates me that two countries next to one another can be so different. With no prior knowledge of Chile I expected it to be like Peru - but its not. Things are proper in Chile, just like back home. Chile has proper houses - made from proper bricks. Chile has proper taxis - not pedellos, motorised tricycles or Daewoo Tico's. And most of all - in Chile people drive properly, with courtesy and indicators. Chile feels relaxed and laid back. Its really peaceful compared with more northern countries (dare I say Peru).

by admin as part of Satay, Surf and Salsa - Asia, Australia and the Americas 2006-2008.On April 22nd, Em and I celebrate one year on the road. It hardly seems a year has passed since we left our home, pets and possessions for the trip of a lifetime.
We've experienced some amazing lands and the roads which travel through them, the people we've had the pleasure to meet along the way making it a memorable trip. Lines on a map that become adventures, situations that become experiences, strangers who become friends.

by admin as part of Americas 2002-03, South on the Road to Adventure.Although it was hard to leave Nicaragua so soon, James and I felt the pressure of the onset of winter in Patagonia already, despite the heat and humidity. It would be OK there until March, but we had a LONG way to go! So it was time to pick up the pace a bit and many interesting spots in Nicaragua were placed on each of our "to do on the way back" lists. This list would soon swell in each country we passed through.
To Nemrut and beyond
by Sean Kelly as part of UK to Oz 2002-2003.Sorry, but this is a big entry as we are still moving fairly quickly and have not come across any usable internet cafes for a while...
