Biting The Bullet

by McCrankpin as part of Whyteleafe, Surrey UK to Cape Town .

Went to the dentist the other day. Was due a checkup anyway, but common advice is to have your teeth checked before a long trip to far-away places.
The man with the big drill and pliers persuaded me to have the remains of a tooth removed. A large piece had broken off of it about 8 years ago.
“A direct off-road route for bacteria straight into your jaw!” he said.
So he wriggled and jiggled with his pliers, surprisingly gently, and announced, “All done!”

Anthony and the Goliath

by Bonnygirl as part of Australian Adventures.

Monday 31st January 2011 – I awoke to a calm and peaceful morning today. Cyclone Anthony did a bit of mischief down at Bowen but we were unaffected in Townsville. So, by the time I’d retrieved my bike from the toilet block, it was about 7am before I got on the road. However, I made good time and got to Ayr by 8.30 so stopped for a cuppa in the local servo.

(13) July in Beautiful British Columbia!

by admin as part of Canada 2004.

Awesome B.C.

I spend the month of July in British Columbia.

The weather is so pleasant, dry, sunny and warm, quite a difference from the east of Canada this summer.

I explore all the local sites, hike in the mountains, lakes, rivers and the awesome scenery that is around every corner here.

I take the opportunity to mtn. bike, hike and swim in the mtn. lakes, see Vancouver and go for a hike to Cape Scott on the northern most point of Vancouver Island.

Well since March, done very little

by jquinton as part of My Trip.

Forgot my username and password for this blog (old age but remember where I am and what I still want to do) saw a video of the stretch of road that the 2 lorries and bus nearly got me on. Filmed by another couple I met in Zambia, brought some memories back. Last heard they were in Japan in August, hope they are well.
Stole a short clip.

Been lazy and done little, bought a Honda to play on,

Nervous Wreckage

by Bonnygirl as part of Australian Adventures.

Friday 8 October 2010 – OMG! What a ride from Kangaroo Island to Adelaide. First an unexpectedly twisty road from Cape Jervis, then I had to navigate my way into Adelaide from memorised directions (as I have no GPS or any way of mounting a map onto my bike). Nevertheless, I managed to make it all but one street from the YHA before I had to pull over and check the map. I almost dropped to my knees and kissed the tarmac when I pulled up in front of the hostel I was so relieved to have made it.

(2) Beautiful Quebec

by admin as part of Canada 2004.

Saturday May 29 2004

From Algonquin Park I drive in cool, sunny weather towards Montreal where i camp just outside of a town called Hudson, a few kms west of Montreal.

Has been enjoyable driving, listening to my cd's and the local FM stations along the way.
I find it cold, I'm wearing my long underwear, turtleneck ski shirt, jeans, leather chaps & jacket, a fleece pullover, a fleece jacket and my gortex rain gloves.

Kenya

by jquinton as part of My Trip.

Travels in KenyaLeft Niavasha with good intention of spending the night in Nairobi so took the old road. Not the views but a nice ride until 18km from Nairobi three and a half hours later and just headed on towards Mombassa. Past the airport on a new dual carraigeway worse surface than anything back home to the Alti River turn off for the border and a great long straight two lane road to the Tanzania border, about 70 miles of brilliant tarmac.

Hall Of Fame, Hall Of Shame

by McCrankpin as part of Whyteleafe, Surrey UK to Cape Town .

We have a few members in our Hall Of Fame now.
BAT Motorcycles of Biggin Hill

Firstly a big thanks to BAT, who we rate as the world's experts on grey-import bikes.
They effortlessly found and supplied a wide range of spares for Caroline's Serow and Beau's non-UK TTR.
As it turned out, this particular Serow is a one-off model made only for one year and only for the Japanese market, yet BAT had a spares book for it (entirely in Japanese but that doesn't faze the staff in the slightest), and of course a spares book for the TTR also in Japanese.
