From Madrid to Pyrinees
Country
Very nervous about the beginning of our three month adventure and ready to enjoy it, we left Madrid on the way to Burgos, we used the main road.
We stopped in Segovia, beautiful place and aqueduct, some problems to park the bike, lunch and we continued to Burgos. Nice roads, not crowded at all, good sightseeing, fully enjoyable even on the E5 (Autovía del norte).
Burgos is a nice city, old Castle (fortress) on the hill, we found a small path behind the castle to enjoy the city view and the castle walls.
On the way to Pamplona we decided to take the road that passes by Vitoria Gasteiz (instead of Logroño), the capital of The Basque Country (País Vasco); interesting modern city. They say that their language Euskera (Vasco) is the oldest language of Europe, it´s unique and has no relation to any other language whatsoever.
From Pamplona the fun began, we took the Pyrenean Axis (Eje pirenaico), the road that runs along the southern Spanish side of this mountain range. Great lunch in Ainsa, an incredible medieval city, beautifull road, great night in Castejon de Sos, a nice small town.
Barcelona was not in our plans, we wanted to keep going east to Andorra and France but we had to go there because of unwanted logistics. With the aim of avoiding highways we took a very nice road: Pont de Suert, Tremp, Cellers (beautiful countryside), Balaguer and finally an unbearable highway to Barcelona.
