500km, 11 hours, incl. 90 min at border post (currently under construction, will be brand new model 1-stop-border in a few months)
Mostly good tarmac, first 20km from Mbarara road works, should be completed in 2015. Afterwards: Perfect brand new tarmac, around Kabale with my personal "Kingdom of curves", with fantastic riding! Lots of potholes in the cities.
Shortcut from Kabale to Muko village: Great gravel/dirt road, with 3-4 technical sections, not recommended during rain, but with AWESOME views of Lake Bunyoni, definitely recommended for the experienced rider!
Last 25km to Bwindi/Rushaga Gorilla Trekking: Good gravel/dirt road, with some steep parts, doable also when wet.
Heavy traffic on main roads! Busses, trucks and cars don't stay in their lanes, drive at high speeds expect oncoming motorbikes/piki-pikis to make way, forcing them onto the shoulder. Overtaking with very little distance, nothing for the faint-hearted.
Day 15:
Gorilla Trekking, first rest day for the bike!
Day 16:
Bwindi NP - Kampala/UGD
480 km, 9 hours, mostly good tarmac or brand new roads (road works near Mbarara, see Day 14), lots of potholes in the cities
Heavy traffic, crazy driving, complete mayhem in Kampala - but actually good fun if you have the nerves, know the width of you bike and don't mind a scratch on your panniers. It's amazing where the GS can squeeze through, just watch how the locals on their piki-pikis (boda-bodas) do and follow their example.
Day 17:
Kampala/UGD - Jinja/UGD
80 km, 2 hours, all tarmac with regular potholes, serious speed humps and some deep ruts in urban areas
Heavy traffic with exhaust fumes that blurr your vision. Crazy overtaking and speeding - 150% attention required in every second on the road (with some relaxing stretches inbetween)
