End of part 1

We are back in Sanitago now. The bikes have been delivered back to Ride Chile, maybe not as clean as when they left, or with all their nuts and bolts still attached.

Overall we had very few problems, other than bits falling off, the biggest issue was Jean's fork seal going on the first day of the ripio. But like a trooper, she just rode on.jeanfork.jpg

When we first went to Norway, our reaction was "Scotland on steroids", Southern Patagonia and the Carretera Austral have left us struggling to find a metaphor one level up. Basically Norway was just practice for these mountains and fjords.

At times the road was tough and hard, only managing 200kms in a day, which was as much as Jean wanted to do on the ripio, as it would takes us five or more hours of constant concentration. The challenge was as much mental as physical. A careful eye had to be kept on the road for potholes, ridges and gravel lines, while always wanting to look at the scenery and then adjusting for the sudden wind shift as you rounded a mountain bend with a sheer drop off.

We loved it, I'd do it again. Jean says maybe :-)

Our last days of riding took us from mountains.

To volcano shrouded lakes.

And tree lined national parks, I knew it was time to crack on when the tree hugging started.

We have left all our riding gear with the bike rental people while we get on with part two of the trip, getting up to Peru for some walking, without the bikes.

Truly "Pegless to Peru"
(note:- the original Pegless tag was because we were not riding our Aprilia Pegaso when we started this blog in 2012 :-) )
