S02E08 - Timur's Kingdom: The heart of the Silk Road
Country
Country
We start this episode by paying tribute to the defunct Aral Sea… followed by the visit of a few Qala’s - 2000 year-old sand castles, remains of the forgotten Kushan Empire. Then we head to the heart of the Silk Road - Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand with their beautiful mosques, mausoleums, minarets and madrasahs, testimony of the splendour and richness that Central Asia once had.
* Cover picture is the Sher-Dor (39.654931, 66.976147), one of three Madrasahs that compose the Registan in Samarkand, Uzbekistan - perhaps the most charming building ever.
