Getting There

Left early Oct. 1st hoping to get through Seattle before the mess, did not happen. But I made it.

My last good cup of coffee for awhile, thanks, I am going through withdrawal now.

Arriveby at Dangerious Goods certification place and got my original copy, note if you are going to fly a bike out take at least two copies as they will want original and copy at Air Canada. I found cargo depot by 11:00 but still had 1/3 tank so I rode around for an hour to bring it down below 1/4 as required.

Took about 3.5 hours to setup and process bike, mostly because they were short staff and had to wait till the right person came in to do final clearance. When I got to hotel they called and found two items on my packing list that could not take. I had a lighter in with stove and a butane soldering iron that had to come out. I did not have to go back as they were willing to take them out for me, will need to pick up a new soldering iron in Europe as I have found that to be very helpful tool and pulled a couple of wires to my SAE plug when I took cover off to get to battery.

Packed and ready for shipping. this is a dream of mine and I am sure many other travelers, ride your bike fully loaded into airport and have it fly on the same plane as you do. Just big luggage. They were worried about the wind screen so I put the cardboard on it but don't think it was needed. If you see Air Canada give them a thumbs up for making this all happen at an affordable price.

I was able to leave my pack and helmet on the Bike. Final weight was 308 kg and 414 kg with me and backpack on scale too. Shipping goes by volume or weight but motos will always be by volume because of the room they take per kg. this means that if they let you leave pack and stuff on bike it should not increase cost. Made it a lot easier to get around with only a back pack to carry.

Strapped to pallet in Frankfurt

Our plane landed by 6:30 AM, was told it would be four hours before I could pickup the bike so found out where Air Canada cargo was and started walking. Ended up being 3.5 K but I made it by 8:30 and the bike was ready to go. While we waited for someone to come in with pass to customs office, (was Sunday so had to go to customs in a different compound), we unpacked and prepped bike.

Got to customs office and they would not accept my scanned copy of "green card" insurance. Without a supervisor there to OK it and no one to call on Sunday I was stuck. Walked back to terminal and took a shuttle to Hotel. So new rule, don't arrive on weekend.

Expect to get it cleared tomorrow when they open at 8:00 and be on my way.

Air Canada has been great to work with, will be a real boom to motorcycle transport if the costs don't go up too much when the special is over.
