Washington
by Paul Brealey as part of Aussies Across The USA.Happy to Leave New York and head south to Washington DC
Wednesday 1st April South to Washington DC (By Paul).
At last I finally got a decent nights sleep :-). Stevie finally got his strips sorted out and I shoved my ear plugs in good and proper.... yee har.
Todays journal entry will be fairly simple. We caught a New York Yellow Taxi to the train station, yup he dropped us off at the wrong station but it sure beat having to walk and drag the bags behind us from the hotel.

by admin as part of Life of Brian-oz style. After the great time i had in the Graskop area it was a bit of a shock to hit the high life of Pretoria. I booked into a local B/Packers, but it turned out to full of the younger set, not a lot of sleep or rest for me. The second nite it got that bad that i moved my gear to the driveway where my bike was and slept there, rather nice. Was even better when the owner didnt charge me for the nite.

by admin as part of Around the world, 2003 - 2006.I have wanted to visit the islands for many years. By being in Quito and being able to go at short notice I got a rather nice 45% discount off the normal rack rate.
Here are a few examples of what I saw:

by admin as part of RTW 2004-2007.You remember that shot in the opening credits of 'Dallas' apparently shot from an aircraft racing across the prairie towards the futuristic-looking glass skyscrapers of the city?Well, that's exactly what it looks like. Stunning. Of course, when you find somewhere safe to stop for a photo there are power lines in the way. One of those Immutable Laws Of The Universe.

I'm still on the trail, at the present time I'm in Malawi in the village of Cape Maclear on the southern part of Lake Malawi. Everything is good I just haven't had wifi or a reliable connection in order up load photos to my Blog. The place I staying now, Indaba Lodge, has a wifi hot spot however I need to purchase 100MB access cards which don't allow me to do much, oh well, it is what it is.
Slovakia
by admin as part of Europe 2009.I've made it into my first completely unknown country, and met lots of people.I left Vienna under blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Hallelujah! The night before had involved much late-night drinking and talking, so I left late after a leisurely breakfast. I'd also found a Guide du Routard for Slovakia in the hostel, so marked the highlights on my map, and talked bikes with a Mexican guy who's planning a trip through South America on his V-Strom.

by admin as part of Life of Brian-oz style. In Tofo(well Inhambane realy) i borrowed a spanner to adjust the headstem bearings, unfortunately i did them a little to tight. The bike road as it was on tracks, bit of a bother. So in getting to Maputo i found a steet vendor selling tools, he had exactly what i wanted and a good price also. I re-did the bearings there and then on the side walk.

by admin as part of Around the world, 2003 - 2006.I love Ushuaia, it has a real buzz.
There are tourists everywhere. They are either just about to go or have just returned from their Antarctic cruise. Many of those that have returned said they have never seen so many animals together, hige colonies of penguins and birds.
One lady did say that the sea had been 'a bit rough'.
'What do you mean by a bit?' I asked.

by admin as part of RTW 2004-2007.Stalina took me to her school yesterday, with a couple of her friends. It's traditional here for ex-pupils to go back to their schools, once they've left, with gifts for their teachers.Inside, the school was light, airy, and full of plants. The teachers were all lovely, and seemed more like aunties than teachers. The gym mistress looked like every gym mistress you've ever seen.
Outside, the paint was peeling and the building looked almost abandoned; but as I said to Stalinka, it's what happens inside that matters, and anyway if you're inside you can't see the outside.

by Rigby as part of Let the journey begin... .Febuary 15, 2014
When I was in Tena one of the guides services said they could book me on a three day fishing trip to Laguna Limoncocha. It was only a few hour ride out so I thought I'd check things out first.
Serbia and Macedonia
by admin as part of Europe 2009.Last couple of days in Serbia, and my time in MacedoniaAfter writing my last entry I headed for yet another monastery. This one also had accommodation in the form of a run-down hotel with great views and, most importantly, a balcony where I could hang my washing! In the morning as I left I was given a thumbs-up and "bravo!" from a tiny old cleaning lady - the best reactions I've had throughout the trip have been from women, who display none of the incredulity the men show.
