Offroad in Romania

by admin as part of Europe/North America 2003-2004.

Once a year, my friend Klaus Schrader (second from right below) in cooperation with Tiberius (“Tibi”) Erdelyi (far left) arranges an enduro offroad adventure in Romania. One week of gravel roads, trial sections, mud patches and a glas of vodka to complement breakfast (an old Romanian tradition I am told).

The dersert highway

by davebetty as part of Single ticket to Sarajevo.

I had a great nights sleep and woke to find that my ankle felt a little better. There would be no piste today just a bit of road riding, so it would give my ankle a bit more time. I had been told to leave my bike outside on the pavement which I was slightly concerned about. I needn't have as a guardian wearing a florescent jacket had looked after it all night. The cost 10 dirham, 63 pence. It is a bit hard to get your head around. 63 pence wouldn't pay for Group 4 Securities to clear their throats back in the UK!

Cusco to Columbia

by Road Hog as part of The Great Escapes XI.

Monday morning at 6:30 I am out waiting for the taxi that is to pick me up and take me to bus that will drive to train station for trip to Machu Picchu. Taxi is late, had problems finding camp ground, bus has already started out so we test the taxi drivers skill racing through Cusco and finally catch up to bus about 10 K out of town. At Urmbamba we get on the train for the ride to Machu Picchu. Once we arrive we once again board a small bus for the ride to the top. They said it takes 1 1/2 hour to walk up but I think it would take me half a day.

Mozambique, 12 November 2007

by admin as part of through Europe, the Middle East and Africa on a 1955 Royal Enfield Bullet .

Sheepy RIP. Two boat trips. Raising awareness in Africa about oil spills.By the standards of the pace we have kept during this trip a huge number of miles have passed beneath the wheels of the Bullet in a very short time since the last entry.

There's been some tough roads since leaving Lilongwe. If I'm honest tougher than expected. I didn't really bite off more than I could chew, just that leaving Lilongwe my appetite wasn't quite that hearty.

The (bumpy) road to Sarajevo

by davebetty as part of Single ticket to Sarajevo.

A new day brought sunshine which was a relief. I was down for breakfast at my hotel, The Stari Grad at a reasonable time, because I wanted to look around before I left.

On top of the hill was the castle built by the Bosnic kings and later taken over by the Ottomans. All around the tiny cobbled streets were ancient buildings, It was so beautiful.

Cape Town - Canyon - to the Sea

by Road Hog as part of The Great Escapes XI.

Brian lead us into Cape Town to the Harley dealer where we intended to pickup a couple of shirts to document where we have been. But it was not to be as they were sold out of everything except small and XX large, seems there has been a run on them for Christmas. From there we headed to Table Mountain for a cable car ride to the top, 1160 M. From the top we could see across Cape Town. Then down the mountain and ride along the coast roads and back to Brian and Marganne’s. Cape Town is a beautiful city and would be fun to explore if one had the time.

Addis Ababa, 6 June 2006

by admin as part of through Europe, the Middle East and Africa on a 1955 Royal Enfield Bullet .

The latest blog entry from Addis Ababa and we muse on issues of street kids, fret over strange rattles from the Bullet and get ready to ride down to Nairobi.Little mileage has passed under the Bullet's wheels since the last blog entry. Just a two day ride since the last entry in Bahir Dar. Despite the little distance Addis is however a world apart. An immediate first impression is that there is a lot more money here than in the provinces.

Best Biking day

by davebetty as part of Single ticket to Sarajevo.

I am sitting in a small café, somewhere nea Senj, with the sea just a few feet away. The sun is shining bright and I have just ordered a beer. A bit of a perfect situation, you may say, but it is nothing, compared to the day Betty and I have had on the road.

MOTHER´S DAY

by admin as part of Veracruz, Mexico, to Tierra del Fuego.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 16
Wind buffets the Honda and I crouch low on the ride to Comodoro RIivadavia. Ahead lies the South Atlantic. I intended servicing the bike at the Honda agency. Comodoro Rivadavia appears deserted. Wind commands the streets. Dust devils snake across the tar. I stop for fuel. A lone truck pulls into the gas station. I have hit a national holiday: Mother’s Day.

Chiapas, México

by admin as part of Costa Rica a Canada.
