Update

by admin as part of 2013-2014.

Well it's been a while since we last wrote and although not much has happened a lot really has.
We left Newton Stewart with most of our belongings dry and although it was still drizzling we were much more optimistic about our travels. Our aim today was to try and reach near the Trossachs.

Nairobi, Part 2

by McCrankpin as part of Whyteleafe, Surrey UK to Cape Town .

A couple of weeks ago we left Nairobi for Tiwi Beach on the Indian Ocean coast, south of Mombasa.
The road there took us between two National Parks, not completely fenced, so wildlife sightings can be expected almost anywhere.

About halfway to Mombasa a herd of zebra seem to live permanently by the roadside - they were still there when we returned a week later.
And a little further on something large was rummaging around in amongst the trees on the right hand side of the road.

"Flying" to Uzbekistan

by Andi as part of Free Solo 2007.

Not only did I want to stay in Georgia, but Georgia didn't want to let go off me either! When I showed up on the boarder to Azerbaidshan the Georgians demanded some obscure blue paper I didnt have and sent me back to the customs terminal in Tbilisi where I got the extension for the bike.

beginning the first leg

by admin as part of Dakar thru Asia.

1st May 2004

Just a progress story on my trip to Asia.
One the first fateful Saturday of May 2004, Doris (that’s my bike’s nickname) left Brisbane on a Ulyssian epic that would take us up to 12 months to who knows what adventures and exotic places we would encounter.

Is Central America part of S or N America?

by admin as part of RTW 2004-2007.

I knew it was all suspiciously easy.It took longer to get to the shipping agent at the airport than it did to arrange the shipping (which took as much as ten minutes).

So The Old Dear will fly to Panama next Thursday - I ride to the agent, do loads of paperwork, spend ages in Customs doing more paperwork and turning everything out of the panniers yet again (no doubt I'll have to do that in Panama as well, given from where she's flying), disconnect the battery and that'll be it. That's the theory, anyway, and previous reports bear this out.

Off again

by jquinton as part of My Trip.

Took a while but off sightseeing again.December sometime.
Had a brilliant few days away in a lodge with my sister, talking, drinking, eating and burning food outside Bri.jpg.
No tv or internet so just nature and my music. Went out for a drive in the Buki I hired for a few days to see the country side and buy more supplies, quite nice running out of drink. Then had Christmas and New year with the family.
Had some ride outs but left Jo’burg again on the 6th.

Tea, Milk And Tailoring

by McCrankpin as part of Whyteleafe, Surrey UK to Cape Town .

After quite a few days in Kericho with its pavement tailors, I continued with my plan to stay at the Naiberi River Camp near Eldoret as it comes highly recommended. The sun was shining on departure, so here are some photos of the tea estates around the town.

Karma

by Bonnygirl as part of Australian Adventures.

Tuesday 21 December 2010 – On returning to the hostel in Adelaide I discovered there was only one decent mug left, so for the last few days I have been hiding this in the kitchen after each time I’ve used it. However, this morning I came down for breakfast to find that someone had stolen my milk! If this isn’t a karmic payback for such selfish acts then I don’t know what is.

Lacanja/Frontera Echeverria(Corozal)

by Ness as part of Ness Moto 2004.

The only "problems" between San Cristobal de los Casas and Lacanja (pop. 500 elev. 950 ft.)were the hundreds of topes along the road, the heat combined with the humidity, and the first rain storm that lasted longer than 15 minutes. Other than that it was a great ride. The roads from Palenque to Lacanja were mainly straight and flat, with only the slightest curve here and there.

Just before Palenque I pulled into Misol-Ha where the Rio drops 150 feet into a wide pool surrounded by lush vegetation. It was a refreshing 1 hour stop playing in the natural pool under the waterfall.

Philippines (Nov. 2005) - Initial Planning

by admin as part of Philippines November 2005.

Initial Planning

March 2005 - Initial Planning

Early in 2005, a couple of friends and I decided on try our hand at touring the Philippines by motorcycle. Internet searches found this tour to be a rare choice, although there is at least one HU member who has succeeded.

Our first step was to look at a map and decide where we want to go and how long we should take. Flights between Australia and the Philippines mainly pass through Manila. This dictated that we would have to enter and leave the Philippines via Manila.

If you are lost please follow the map.
If you are getting chased by an animal go faster on your motorbike or run faster.
If you are running out of money get a job.
If you are running out of fuel go slowly until you reach a petrol station.
If you are lonely look at the picture of us and when you do you'll know we all miss you.

Time At The Tip Of Africa

by McCrankpin as part of Whyteleafe, Surrey UK to Cape Town .

Phew! I took a bit of a rest there. Eight days or so at the "suidelike punt van die vasteland."
And a very nice place it was to spend some time in. The tiny village of L'Agulhas, the tinier hamlet of Suiderstrand (population less than a hundred), and the slightly larger village of Struisbaai (only one pub but a couple of restaurants).

The tarmac road ends at L'Agulhas, you can go no further on it, but a little gravel track continues past the lighthouse and marker cairn and then another four miles to the very end of the road at Suiderstrand. So it's nice and remote.
