Dubrovnik - Bari - Matera - Salerno - Pompei

Dubrovnic: Have some catching up to do!  Split to Dubrovnic was primarily along the coast, again great vistas and fun riding once rid of Split traffic.  Arrived in Dubrovnic late afternoon, found our AirBnB which was a 15-20 min walk to the Old Town where we headed to for dinner.  Left the walking of the town outer walls and more exploring of the inside for the next morning and rest do the day. Pretty Impressive all around and no surprise to hear that those walls had never been breached.  I either heard or read that Napoleon succeeded in entering but only by negotiating his way in apparently so that doesn't reall count does it.  An orchestra performance in one of the town squares that first night was an added bonus as was a couple of hours at a nearby beach on our last day where I enjoyed a swim and a bit of reading.

Bari: After our 3 nights we boarded our ferry to Bari on Sunday, which was a smooth and uneventful 7 1/2  sailing, well, other than the loading/unloading shamozzle which made our BC ferries look like super heroes.  A B&B awaited us in Old Town Bari which sounded cool but you try finding these places in basically what amounts to an unfathomable maze of alleys, houses, complexes, cathedrals, squares, shops.  Again with the help of "a few" locals, we found our great little room which for 70€, we thought was great value. These little inner cities are living, breathing spaces with a great feel to them, people having coffee, others setting up their food stalls, kids heading to school and playing in these confined spaces. The maze got me again the next morning when I tried to find a bank and return to home base. What should have taken 30 min ended up at least double.

Matera/Salerno: 70 km from Bari, stopped for early lunch and short walk around old town before setting our sites on Salerno on the West coast of Italy. Found a great off the beaten path stretch of highway through farmland and the mountains before finishing off the last 100 km on the freeway.  Not so impressed with Salerno, at least where we ventured and our room was so so as well.  Biggest excitement was last nights loudest thunder and lightning show we have ever heard, sounded like it was right over our heads.

Next up Amalfi Coast.
