After riding through yesterday's heat, we were not looking forward to our final day's ride. The forecast called for continued stifling heat and scattered thunderstorms.

We left Jonesboro at 8:00 and it was already 85 degrees. After about an hour we stopped and donned our water vests and things got a bit better. We rode into the bootheel of Missouri and then crossed the Mississippi River into Tennessee.

Back to Tennessee

In Milan, Tennessee, we found a c-store with a walk-in cooler. We walked in. And stayed awhile.

And then it got a lot better. The skies began to cloud over as we approached Camden, Tennessee. At this point we were hoping for a little rain to cool us down. I know, we're never happy.

Camden, by the way, happens to be Bo's hometown. We couldn't just pass through Camden without stopping to see Bo's mom. So we rode over to Berry Street and had a short visit. Just as she was last year, Mrs. Johnson was glad to have her son safely back in Tennessee.

And then it was back on our bikes. The final 2 hour ride was great. The weather stayed good and the humidity actually lessened. As we rode into Nashville the skies were bright blue and the traffic was as we remembered it: deadly.

And then, just like that, we were home.

So treshomres2004 is over with its mission completed. Nelson is in Alaska, fishing and visiting with friends. Cleve and Bo are back home in Nashville.

We managed to complete our trip with no mishaps and no real problems. There were no flat tires or broken down bikes. Our first mascot, Chopper, did give her life to the effort but other than that, no one got hurt or arrested.

We hope you enjoyed our story.
