Day 21
Country
Phong Nha Ke Bang national park is a UNESCO world heritage site I'm told because of it's caves. Apparently there are hundreds of limestone caves in this area. We went to visit one of the more popular caves - the Paradise cave - which is Asia's longest dry cave. It was well worth paying the $10 entrance fee. The cave was humongous and despite 1000s of visitors inside it felt not too crowded. That's how big it was. The stalactites and stalagmites were immense.
It took us a good couple of hours to look around and then we went riding around the national park before heading back to the hostel.
Staying at the backpackers hostel was great as we met so many, erm... backpackers. It was really interesting to hear everyone's travel stories. Some were travelling with a definite plan while others were just drifting. Some on public transport making their own way, others on proper organized tours and still others on bikes. Not bikers but just travellers some of whom didn't even know how to ride, who had hired bikes and were just riding and learning as they went. It showed in the form of scars and painful looking road rash on many of them. Ouch.
