Day 22
Country

Woke up and it was raining. Looked out of the window to see people riding motorbikes holding umbrellas! We were checking out that morning so had no choice but to ride in the rain. It stayed like that pretty much all the way to Vinh. The ride was none too exciting on the Asian Highway (AH1) either.

Got a hotel room just outside Vinh in the seaside town of Cua Lo. It was a big, posh looking hotel but was virtually empty. As was the rest of town. Tet was blamed.

There was a street-side barbecue cafe around the corner and I think everyone from the town was at that place. Well it was the only place open so...

We had seen but not been in other bbq cafes. It's a great idea. There is a hole cut out in the middle of the table. They bring you a pot of red hot coal and a grill over it and place it in the hole in the table. You order whatever you wanted at the cart. They bring it to the table. You cook and eat it. No kitchen or cooks required. I think our inability to cook with chopsticks showed because the landlady took pity on us and took it upon herself to pull up a chair and sit at our table and proceeded to do the cooking for us. Well, she showed us how to anyway. It was great. By about 9 pm the buzzing cafe was empty but for Ron and me. We headed back to the hotel not long after.
