30. Washington, DC - 1
Monuments, Memorials and MuseumsMonuments, Memorials and MuseumsFrom Lancaster it was a short ride to Washington, I took the back roads through
some very pretty farms and small country towns, the Amish inhabit quite a large
area.

The last part of the ride it rained and I arrived in Washington wet.
I stayed with some long lost relatives here, they made me very welcome,
thank you for your hospitality.
The first thing I noticed about Washington was there were no tall buildings at all.
I got around as I usually do in the cities using the trains.
First stop "The Mall" it is absolutely amazing how many really impressive
Monuments, Memorials and Museums are clustered around this small area.
They are all free which in the USA is amazing in itself and to enter most you
have to go through a security check, sometimes queue up and for the
Washington Memorial and The Capitol a ticket (free) is required.
Washington Monument
This thing is huge, there is a lift to the top first get your ticket, then join the queue
and security check to go up.
The lift has windows and the insde of the monument is decorated with extracts
and information about its history and construction.
I wonder what the man would have to say about the present state of affairs.
