Mexico

by admin as part of Africa & TransAm 07.

Ola!

South of the border and it all changes!

Blissful chaos - isolated roads - halepinos and tequila!Mexico has been a real blast – chaotic, historic, surprising, friendly, and often beautiful – the riding has varied from rainy days in clouds at 2,500m, (we went even higher later - to 3,200m) to wonderful windy mountain roads near Copper Canyon (bigger than Grand Canyon), to steamy coastal strip near the Caribbean, to traffic snarled towns where stony faced aggression is the riding technique to choose, and a very few freeways.

6 Feb 2005. UPS Express Office, 23 Avenue Bourguiba, Nouakchott, Mauritania. I went to pick up my freshly-couriered camera today. The lazy moo at the UPS office said "S'not 'ere".

Rain stops play - well almost.

by admin as part of 2x2x2 SE USA 2013.

The rain started to fall here in Buffalo Creek in the early hours of the morning, and as we rose and enjoyed a hearty breakfast, the rain was coming down straight as stair rods. The flow was increasing in the creek which runs just a few feet from the porch, and none of us felt like going ahead with our plan for today: to ride the Tail of the Dragon.

Iran /Bam

by admin as part of NZ - UK.

Easy border crossing into Iran. Welcome welcome everyone says.
Still had security to and from Zahedan all the way to Bam, but I'm told that is all over with now.
Zahedan felt like I was still in Pakistan, couldn't leave hotel even to go across the road to get some food. Police were called and they escorted me. Another tough ride through the desert but at least the roads are good.

Pretty Vacant

8.7.09 Cali, Colombia mednight1.JPG

We've ascertained, haven't we, what the Worst Song In The World is already. But what's the Other Worst Song In The etc? Spot on! And well done. It's What's Going On by 4 Non Blondes.

-It's a rat with a sore on its leg dying on your lunch.

-It's a burp mishap.

-It's flat, room-temperature Pepsi served by a frowning Mormon.

Good News - Setting off on an 18 Year Adventure

by admin as part of UK - Asia 2002 / 2003.

We promised the people of Asia that we would do the trip, and then go home and have babies. We have delivered on that promise, or at least Georgie has delivered. All is well with us, Georgie is smiling after the ordeal and the baby is well.

Turkey /Olympos/Kas

by admin as part of NZ - UK.

As I saıd previously İ only stayed one nıght ın Antalya but Luıs (the bıker I met from Portugal) and I decıded to take a easy rıde up the coast to Olympos only an hour away. It was great rıdıng wıth someone else after all thıs tıme but I soon realısed why I was adamant from the begınıng that I was goıng to do thıs trıp alone. After a late nıght prevıous we had arranged to meet at breakfast and leave at a perfectly cıvıl tıme of around 10.30am. This is quite unusual for me as I try to set off early around 6 or 7am especially if I intend to ride a long distance.

Take the high road

by admin as part of Americas trip 2007-2008.

On the road at last, but feeling vulnerable. On the road, even if its only a very slow one; in milage covered rather than speed travelled. The Sespe Wilderness I passed through yesterday was awesome, about a 50 mile ride of continuous curves. It was all so scorched, not just by the sun either! It was so clear how vast an area had burnt down in recent years. Apparently one in every four forest fires is found to be started by fire fighters; I guess thats one way of ensuring job security!
