Off again
Took a while but off sightseeing again.December sometime.
Had a brilliant few days away in a lodge with my sister, talking, drinking, eating and burning food outside .
No tv or internet so just nature and my music. Went out for a drive in the Buki I hired for a few days to see the country side and buy more supplies, quite nice running out of drink. Then had Christmas and New year with the family.
Had some ride outs but left Joburg again on the 6th.
The lodge
Anita for sale, no price though.
Found out I was not insured in South Africa (don't ask, was told at the border I had all I needed) sent an email and thanks to Penny Williams of Sceptre Insurance who not only responded to my emails on new years day but had my bike insured by 1:00 pm on the second of January. THATS WHAT I CALL FANTASTIC SERVICE and thanks to all the other companies who have still not replied.
Jan the 6th
Took a gentle ride through Joburg staying off the freeway that you have to pay for (so how can it be a freeway??) out through Pretoria and on to some gorgeous roads, everything you could want including policeman beside me saying hello, coming into the town were some deviations, the road is about to fall into the Cullinden big hole apparently so is being rerouted. Rode to the tour guide to check times, 1.00pm and booked a tour below ground in the worlds biggest diamond mine. Asked him if there was any places local for a couple of nights and he recommended the Dolphin Whispers about a kilometers away so off I rode and booked in. Went for a walk around town spotting a barber so had my first hair cut since home. Had a bad night sleep kept up coughing.
Jan the 7th
Got up for a 7 oclock breakfast, bike out, (I was allowed to park it behind the locked gate to the garden) and set off for the mine, a brilliant 5 hours is all I can say with 2.5 of it underground.
The biggest hole for a diamond mine and the biggest diamond (Found by the heart in centre of picture.
Came out and asked for a good place to eat. Headed down there along another dirt road,
not in the best of condition but the food and staff were excellent.
Decided to head out to Bronkelspruit to find a war memorial of about 200 British soldiers who died, 60K and defeated but fantastic tarmac roads and car drivers who moved over. Great ride. Managed all of 290km in 2 days.
Map of journey so far.
