With a feeling of leaving home, we turned our backs to Porthcurno and rode towards Newquay. The weather was slightly rainy but no real issue. Many people along our trip had warned us about Newquay being very touristy, full of stag parties and generally not very enjoyable. We still wanted to go there for a bit of surfing.
When we had checked into our BnB we went into the town center to have a look and we really liked the place. Yes it‘s touristy but it‘s very surf oriented and has the whole vibe going that you‘d usually expect in Portugal or California. There‘s a wide selection of nice restaurants and beaches.
The next day we rented wetsuits and boards (the downside of not travelling in a van) and checked the surf. It was great. We had two 2-3 hour sessions and in the evening we were really beat, blind from the sea water and happy from the wonderful surf. We celebrated with a nice Pizza dinner and hit the sack.
It was time for our next stop: Bath
