15. - 17.08. Torquay - Porthcurno
Country

Originally we had planned to ride to St. Austell. I had found a nice youth hostel in the middle of a forest that appealed to me. But my copilot found pictures of wonderful beaches in a place called Porthcurno. I checked for a nice Airbnb, found one and so it was settled.

We arrived around 1400 at our destination and were welcomed by our host. Soon after we were at the first beach and enjoyed the sun. At 1730 we were back at the house, since we were told there would be a game of rounders (sth like baseball) and we wanted to come and watch. Instead of watching, we were assigned teams and suddenly found ourselves playing a game we had never heard of. It was huge fun and we talked to many people from the village and it was just a wonderful experience. One of the locals also told us, there would be a football match on saturday and a barndance after that. It was clear we couldn‘t miss out om that and so we changed our plan of leaving on Saturday and decided to stay an extra night.

The next day it was quite rainy but that couldn‘t keep us from taking a walk along the coast. When we came back, we were so soaked that we decided that a swim wouldn‘t do any harm. So great to be swimming with massive waves and rain and wind and all. In the evening I fixed pancakes for everyone in the place, since we also wanted to contribute a little to the wonderful feeling of community. By that time we had also befriended two other guests who had also decided to join for the football and dance the next day.

On Saturday we got up early to reach land's end before the guard and the other tourists would arrive. It was only a 20 minute ride and when we got there, the morning was beautiful and crisp and there were only 5 people except us. We took the obligatory pictures and went for a walk. The landscape was very enjoyable and the entire mood was just beautiful and we were very happy that the place wasn't crowded. We can only imagine, but the feeling will probably be entirely different when all the shops are open and you have to stand in line to take a picture. It felt like had reached the goal of our journey!

Land's end

When we returned, we had a massive breakfast, before we climbed to another beach, the one that had originally lured us to Porthcurno. We had a wonderful day full of sun, enjoying the beachlife. Upon our return we grabbed the bike and rode to the nearby farmshop to grab cornish pasties (yummy) and some bottles of cider. So we were prepared and went to the game, enjoyed the cider and danced until we were soaked with sweat. What kicks and what an unforgettable experience.

We knew that leaving Porthcurno would make us very sad, but the trip had to continue and Newquay was waiting for us.
