Friday 11 Sept - Springfield(MO) - Miami (OK)
Today's trip takes us through three states from the beautiful Missouri through Kansas and on into Oklahoma. Our first stop was at a restored gas station 3 miles west of Halltown run by an interesting gent called Gary who eeks out a living selling odds and end to tourists but will talk all day about the famed route outside his front door..defintely stop if you can.
If you are feeling hungry then take a detour to what looks like the town in Back to the Future...Carthage and the Deli Ice cream store on Main Street for great sandwiches eaten in a pink cadillac booth.Don't forget the drive in theatre if its in season. The route takes you onwards over the state border into the 14 miles of Kansas. The road is noticably worse here and "The four women of the road" cafe is a great relief...you might recognise the old tow truck from the "Cars" movie. There are two towns of note in Kansas namely Gallop and the famous wild west cattle town of Baxter Springs (once known as the toughest town in all the west). Both are now totally run down and offer little in the way of attractions.
We stopped in the indian town of Miami for the night.Try to get to the motorcycle museum "Vintage Iron" if you have the time.
