thursday 24 Sept - Kingman - Needles(CA)
After leaving the historic downtown of Kingman the old routing of 66 heads into the faraway hills over the famous Sitgreeves pass where many of the early pioneers got stuck and thereby providing the locals with a lucrative towing business.
A word of warning though, the temperature here in the desert when we set out was 95F (thats cool according to the locals) so make sure to have plenty of water.A few miles before you reach the pass you will find the oasis that is Cool Springs so grab a few bottles of the frozen solid water (it will have melted by Oatman) and get ready for the 10 miles of switchbacks that lie ahead.
The road finally ends up in the former mining town of Oatman now famous for the burro's that wander freely through the town, try to stay for the "gunfight" at 1:30 or 3:00 if you can.
The temperature rises to 110, so just over the Californian border we stop for the night as the engine gets no cooling even at 70mph.
