IJmuiden to Travemunde
Country
Smooth sailing on the ferry, a good night's sleep, and a good day in the saddle. Weather was fair, pleasantly warm and dry. Fast roads make for easy progress, if not particularly exciting. I deliberately chose roads that stayed away from the bits we spent most time in, to make the trip more interesting and less déjà vu - and by and large it worked.
Strange thing. My helmet - a BMW series 6 flip-front - really gave me grief on my last long ride, splitting headache from pressure on my forehead, but today it was fine - as long as the speed was high. But when I slowed down, the pressure on my forehead built up. Makes no sense. See what happens tomorrow.
I noticed just before I left home yesterday that the alarm on the bike wasn't working. Thought it was the battery in the remote control that was the problem, but replacing it didn't fix the problem. So I planned to drop in on a BMW place in the Netherlands. But they were all closed - I had forgotten that they don't open on Mondays. But fortunately the BMW agency in Bremen was open, and they sorted out the alarm in short order. Great service!
So now I am at Travemunde, waiting for the ferry to Helsinki. I have only an 'aircraft seat', no cabin, so it's not going to be as luxurious as last night's trip, but I shall survive.
See you on the other side :-)
